Quote: “Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out.” ~John Wooden~
Valorie Burton does a wonderful job with this book helping others to move ahead in their lives when life seems to be at a standstill. I have been through some of the most challenging times in my life as a single mother and this book really would help anyone out who needs to be encouraged through their peaks and valleys of life. I remember my life going so smoothly and then one day my husband asked me for a divorce and Valorie tells real life stories of how to overcome adversity in this book with clients she has had to counsel of her professional life.
In her own personal life she says, “This will not destroy me. I believe in God. On the other side of this challenge, I will be a better and stronger person.” As Valorie talks of her own personal story she also guides you with your unexpected life challenges. She gives the tools, question, and answers when facing setbacks which include:
- The Five Commitments
- Step by Step Guide
- Strategies
- Conquer
- Negativity
- Exercises
In my opinion we all go through setbacks whether it is a job loss, natural disaster, divorce, lay off, illness or though a mid life crisis. Valorie is wonderful at expression and giving helpful insights that worked for her and her clients. As a Christian I really loved her talk about scripture references as my guide to conquering my adversities now and for further references. This book is thought provoking and would be a great study guide for small groups.
Valorie Burton is a certified personal and executive coach. Her other book is “what’s really holding you back?” She has also contributed to Essence, Woman’s Day, and The Oprah Magazine. She resides in Atlanta, Georgia. Her website is www.valoriburton.com
